We removed
various
sections of
our brick

just to see
IF flashing

installed

Andersen

Additionally
we wanted to
see what
else could
be the cause
of our water
infiltration
issues.

also our

Heartland Homes never removed any brick veneer from the
front of our custom built home. All work during
our Better Business Bureau case
was below or
at grade
level.
Except they
sealed the
lower
section of
our brick
veneer during our Better Business Bureau, Heartland Homes complaint.
Our custom home builder did not resolve our water problems.

Luxury brick installed front of our townhome Pittsburgh.
No one ever pinpointed the reason why we were
getting all
of the water
in our
basement we
decided to
see what was
behind the
brick of our
home.
Since
I work
during the
day, I had
to use a
flood light
to light up
the front of
our home.
This way I
could chisel
out the
brick in
areas to
verify the
flashing. As
you will see
in the
photos, NO
flashing is
installed in
the areas
where the
brick is
removed.

OUR OPINION
We believe a
lot of our
water
infiltration
issues that
started 3
months after
closing on
our home are
from
flashing not
being
installed
around our
Andersen
Windows as
their
document
states.
A lot of the
photos on
this page
are very
similar.
We chiseled
the luxury
brick from
the front of
our
Heartland Homes custom built home because we had water
infiltrating
issues since
May 2004.
NO ONE
from Heartland Homes ever asked to come into our home during our 1 year warranty to look at
our water
infiltration
issues.
If they did
we would
have known,
that wasn't
the case.
Love Heartland Homes never corrected our water infiltration issues during our 1 year warranty
even though the emails from their Warranty Department stated they were working on our issues, etc.

I think what

the

our opinion
there is NO

Andersen
Windows specifically state in this 2002 document "heading flashing and
installation flanges DO NOT take the place
of standard window and door flashing. Unit must be properly flashed and silicone sealed for protection against WATER and air infiltration."
Please review the detailed photos we
have below, showing even after we removed the brick from the front
of our home in various sections, no window FLASHING was installed in
those specific areas.
Our
custom built Heartland Home was built with all
Andersen Windows installed in our brand
new home.
Here is the official 2002 Andersen Windows documentation we
received with our new home packet from Heartland Homes.
Here is the Andersen Windows documentation we received from our custom home builder at our closing walk through. Please review this document as it does specifically state windows are to be flashed.
We are not builders, however IF the window manufacturer, in this case,
Andersen Windows state FLASHING must be installed, it is for a reason.
Perhaps this is the reason why we have water infiltrating our home for 5+ years.

We are not 100% sure what building

We called Kennedy Township, they
could not determine what code was
used.
We were also told the builder
inspector used during that time is
no longer with the township.
